Existing jewellery can become the starting point for something new. Our team will assess the material value of your pieces, with eligible gold refined for studio credit and suitable stones for possible reuse in a new Union Studios piece.

How it works
Book an assessment
Bring your jewellery to a private studio appointment so we can understand what you have and what you may want to create next.
How it works
We assess the materials
We weigh and test the metal and inspect any stones separately to determine what can be reused and what refining credit may be available.

Confirm the value
We'll outline the available credit and any stones suitable for reuse before you decide how to proceed.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a diamond or gemstone I already own?
We can assess diamonds and gemstones from inherited or existing jewellery for a remodel. Their suitability depends on condition, measurements and the proposed setting. For new commissions, we generally source the stones ourselves rather than setting externally purchased stones.
Can I redesign an inherited or unworn piece of jewellery?
Yes. We can explore how an existing piece might be reimagined, whether that means retaining a meaningful gemstone, changing a setting or starting again with a new design. We’ll assess the materials before recommending an approach.
Can my existing gold be melted into a new ring?
Usually, we recommend refining existing gold and applying its value as credit towards new metal, rather than melting it directly into a finished piece. This gives us greater control over the alloy and its performance. We’ll explain any suitable exceptions.
How does your precious metal recycling service work?
We assess and weigh eligible items and provide a quotation based on the metal type, purity, weight and current precious metal prices. If you choose to proceed, the items are sent for refining and an agreed credit can be applied towards a Union Studios piece. Once refining has begun, the original jewellery cannot be recovered.
Which metals can I bring for recycling?
We can assess solid gold and platinum jewellery, including damaged or unworn pieces. Please contact us before visiting with silver or smaller quantities, as eligibility and minimum weights may vary. We cannot refine plated or costume jewellery through this service.
How is my recycling credit calculated?
We assess metal purity and weight against the current relevant market price, then explain any refining or processing deductions before you decide whether to proceed. The quotation may change as metal prices move.
Can you reuse gemstones from my old jewellery?
Often, yes, especially larger diamonds and coloured gemstones in good condition. Smaller stones may be less practical to recover, and older stones can sometimes be damaged. We’ll assess the risks with you before any work begins.
Can I change my mind after my jewellery is sent to be refined?
Once jewellery has been processed for refining, it cannot be returned in its original form. We’ll make sure you have the valuation and the chance to consider it before you authorise us to proceed.
