Why proportions matter more than carat weight

Carat weight tells us how much a diamond weighs, but very little about how it will actually feel once it’s on the hand.
Two stones with the same carat weight can present completely differently depending on their proportions, depth, spread and shape. One may feel open, bright and beautifully balanced, while another carries more of its weight below the surface and appears smaller than expected.
It’s why we look beyond the number on a certificate. Proportion plays a huge part in how a diamond sits within a design, how it relates to the finger, and ultimately, how considered the finished ring feels.
The right stone isn’t always the biggest on paper. It’s the one that feels right in the piece.
